Oh, how plush and pampered our lives are here in the States. The majority of our problems lay in “he said, she said” arguments over Twitter or other social media outlets. American Christianity suffers zero physical persecution; we have our hands full infighting about doctrine or denominational differences. Our battle against the secular beast rarely ever extends out past the social issues of the times, and has seldom affected us directly in any way. We, as American Christians, face a different front line than much of the world. However, it’s important we’re aware of the global conflict and the violent, diabolical persecution our brothers and sisters in Christ face worldwide on a daily basis.
The below article discusses a movement in Syria which Christians have begun fighting back. This piece speaks of one militia called, The Lions of the Canyon, who have taken up arms to protect themselves against the bloodthirsty jihadist enemy. Some mainstream Christians would chide our Syrian brothers and sisters for not “turning the other cheek”, but in Scripture we find numerous occasions that defend the right of Christians to take up arms and uphold themselves when attacked. For instance, Nehemiah 4 speaks of the Jews rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, having the fend off enemy raids. Verses 16-18 read,
“So it was, from that time on, that half of my servants worked at construction, while the other half held the spears, the shields, the bows, and wore armor; and the leaders were behind all the house of Judah. Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon. Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.”
The saints in Syria are justified in defending themselves against a salaciously vicious adversary. The American Church should pray earnestly and contribute in whatever ways the Spirit leads; not only to the Syrian body of Christ, but for believers in other volatile regions around the globe. Ultimately, what a sobering reminder this is of the wickedness that presently seeks to devour God’s children; but furthermore, what a reminder of the triumph of Christ on the cross and hope of glory in the reconciliation of all things to Him. Your Kingdom come, Lord!
“Christians in Syria have risen up in a new militia called The Lions of the Canyon , and they fight with heavy canons, guns, and bravery in a new crusade
The cries of man are an endless sea, surrounded by precarious lands upon which stand the hollow bodies of volatile souls and empty eyes, with throbbing hearts pumping the coldest blood, as they witness an endless terrain of corpses and anguishing mortals on the moment of journeying away from this transient life, and approaching the transcendent gates of Heaven. And in the timeless realm of paradise where the thrones of bliss reign, lie the saints who weep day by day for justice, as they witness the blood of living temples puddling on the frigid and bitter earth, and their tears rejected by the hardened and impenetrable soils of men’s hearts.
The blood of countless martyrs are found in thick pools in Syria, and from a distance do callous eyes look about, doing nothing and being wicked and slothful servants (Matthew 25:26). In Syria, endless mounds of human bodies lay rotting, and the followers of Muhammad linger about, preying and pouncing upon whoever they can devour…”
